A healthy mind resides in a healthy body`. In the unhealthy lifestyles of the modern day, this seems especially applicable when we look at the prevalence of diseases,
such as diabetes, obesity, and heart problems among the population, even amongst youngsters, people who ought to be in the prime of their health. Unlike olden times when games and sports were a regular part of a child`s life, today`s youth only has one objective- the pursuit of bookish knowledge, due to which the body has become sadly neglected. Sports and games have been forgotten and we choose to ignore their many benefits.
First and foremost, they keep our bodies in good shape, improve our muscle tone and strengthen our bones, which are musts for students after the long hours spent studying at desks, as well as improving our immunity and digestion. Regular exercise also increases blood circulation in our bodies and that means an increased supply of oxygen to the brains. Therefore, a good and sound health would ensure an agile and active mind, which is a necessity for every student today.
Recent studies have shown that the increasing stress of today`s fast-paced and intensely competitive world plays havoc with one`s mental well-being. Sports instill or infuse a sportive spirit to take up our burdens in a lighter vein, and help us to take both success and failure in a positive way. A good health helps a student to keep a positive attitude towards school work and life in general.
However, health benefits are not the only plus points of sports: they are also the very best sources of recreation. All work and no play make Jack a dull boy; sadly this is increasingly applicable to students today, without excitement and enjoyment in our lives. Sports and games are good diversions and make our leisure time worthwhile. They provide relief and a sense relaxation in a life of monotony of routine of studies and work to students, as well as giving us stimulation and energy for study and hard work. They are, indeed, the right avenues to channelize the energy and vitality of students.
“The reason you’re going through what you’re going through is to receive the things you’ve been praying for.”

In today`s world, an aspect that matters just as much as a person`s knowledge is his personality and how well he interacts with those around him. In this aspect too, the practice of games and sports give us an edge: team sports help building a sense of cooperation, leadership and team-spirit in a student, which are essential in school life during team activities, as well as in later life when one must work collectively with colleagues. They also teach us the value of time and time management, and how it is important to note how even a fraction of a second can prove to be a deciding security is needed factor in life, as well as the importance of strict discipline, patience and obedience.
To conclude, sports and games must be made compulsory right from the primary classes and ought to be a regular feature of the school curriculum, so that we may benefit from them, lest our scholarly minds reside in lethargic bodies.
